# Attach files, voice or video to a comment

Add a file, a voice note, or a video recording to a comment with the buttons in the comment box, then post it with **Comment**. Voice notes get a waveform player and a transcript. revis.io's UI also calls comments "notes".

::: info Before you start

* **Who:** Owners, Admins, Members, Project Admins, and Contributors, on any comment. Reviewers, on comments they wrote. Viewers can't. Guests can when the share link allows **Annotate**.
* **Where:** the web app.
* **You need:** a comment box on an item. Files need your organization to allow file attachments on comments; voice notes and video recordings always work. Voice needs a microphone, and video needs a browser that can record the screen.
  :::

## Attach a file

1. Select **Add attachment** (the paperclip) in the comment box.
2. Choose one or more files.
3. Type your comment and select **Comment**.

You can also drag files onto the comment box, or paste an image into it with `⌘V` (`Ctrl+V` on Windows and Linux). A pasted image is named `screenshot-` plus a number. To add a file to a posted comment, point to it, select **More**, and choose **Add Attachment**, or drop the file onto it.

With no text box selected, `⌘V` on a copied image or video opens **Paste media**. Choose **Attach to comment** or **Add playlist item**.

## Record a voice note

1. Select the microphone (**Add audio note**) in the comment box. Allow the microphone when your browser asks.
2. Speak, then select **Stop recording**.
3. Type a comment if you like, and select **Comment**.

Select the X (**Cancel recording**) to throw the recording away. Recording stops by itself at 10 minutes.

A posted voice note shows a waveform with a speed button for 1x, 1.5x, and 2x. Its transcript reads **Transcribing…** first, then the text. Select the text to expand it. If transcription fails, it reads **Transcript unavailable**. Audio files you attach get the same player.

## Record a video comment

1. Select **Record video comment**. The first time, choose your settings and select **Start recording**.
2. Choose what to share in your browser's picker.
3. Talk after the three-second countdown, then select **Stop recording**.
4. In **Review your recording**, select **Attach to comment**. revis.io posts the comment with the recording.

To change **Include camera**, **Camera**, **Bubble size**, or **Microphone**, select the arrow next to the button (**Change camera / mic**). Videos stop at 10 minutes. **Re-record** and **Discard** in the review let you start over.

## Reply with audio or video

1. Point to a comment and select **Reply with audio** or **Reply with video**.
2. Record as above. Post a voice note with **Reply**, or a video with **Attach to comment**.

## If a comment doesn't save

A comment with a recording, and any reply, stays in the thread as **Not saved** with **Retry** and **Discard**. Select **Retry** to send it again. revis.io keeps the recording only in the open tab, so reloading the page loses it.

If a file fails after the comment posts, revis.io shows **Failed to upload** and the file's name, and the comment stays without the file.

## Limits

* Images: 150 MB. JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, BMP, TIFF, and PSD. SVG and HEIC aren't supported, even though the file picker may list them.
* Video: 300 MB. MP4, MOV, WEBM, AVI, MKV, and M4V.
* Audio: 50 MB. MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, M4A, and OGG.
* PDF: 50 MB.
* Through **Add Attachment** or a drop onto a comment, video can run 3 minutes and audio 10 minutes.
* Organization Owners and Admins turn file attachments off under **Organization settings** > **Uploads** with **Allow file attachments on comments**.

::: warning
Every member sees **Delete** on an attachment, but only the comment's author and Owners, Admins, and Project Admins can delete it. For anyone else, revis.io hides the file until you reload the page, and the file stays.
