# Reply to and react to a comment

Point to a comment in the **Notes** panel and select **Reply** to answer it in its thread, or **React** to add an emoji. Anyone who can open the review can react, but replying needs permission to comment. revis.io's interface calls comments "notes" in places, such as this panel.

::: info Before you start

* **Who:** to reply, Owners, Admins, Members, Project Admins, Contributors, and Reviewers, and guests on a link that allows comments. To react, the same people plus Viewers, and guests on any link. If a link asks guests to confirm their email, they confirm it before their first reaction.
* **Where:** the web app.
* **You need:** a review open in the player, with the **Notes** panel open (select **Notes** on the right edge) and a comment in it. To write one, see [Add a comment on a frame or range](/feedback/add-a-comment).
  :::

## Reply to a comment

1. Point to the comment and select **Reply**.
2. Type your reply in the box that says **Add reply, mention with "@"...** To mention someone, type **@** and choose a name.
3. Press **Enter**, or select **Reply**.

Your reply appears under the comment. A line such as "2 replies" shows how many there are; select the comment to read them. To answer one reply in particular, point to it and select **Reply** there. The reply box stays open until you select another comment, and the hover buttons on that comment, including **React**, stay hidden meanwhile.

## React with an emoji

1. Point to the comment and select **React**, the smiley with a plus.
2. Choose 👍, ❤️, 😂, 🎉, 👀, or 🔥. For any other emoji, select **More emojis** and search.
3. To take your reaction back, select the same emoji under the comment.

Each emoji appears under the comment with a count, and yours is highlighted. Select an emoji someone else added to add yours. You can react to a reply the same way.

## If a reply doesn't save

revis.io shows **Couldn't save your reply**, and the reply stays under the comment marked **Not saved**, even if you collapse the thread. Select **Retry** to send it again with your original text and attachments, or **Discard** to remove it. Retry works while the tab stays open: reloading the page loses an unsaved reply.

## Limits

* Resolved comments show neither **Reply** nor **React**. Someone who can resolve comments can reopen it first; see [Resolve, edit or delete comments](/feedback/resolve-edit-or-delete-comments).
* Viewers see **React** but not **Reply**.
