# Chat and talk with reviewers during a session

Use the web player's **Chat** panel to message reviewers or join the review's voice call. Guests can take part if the share link allows it. Some links require a Revis account first; **Presentation** links don't allow guests in the call.

::: info Before you start

* **Who:** anyone who can open the review, including guests on a share link. If the link requires a Revis account to take part, sign in first.
* **Where:** the web app's player. The desktop app has no chat or voice call.
* **You need:** a microphone for the voice call. Your browser asks for permission to use it the first time.
  :::

## Chat

1. Open the review in the player and select **Chat** (the speech bubbles at the top right).
2. Type in **Type a message...** and press **Enter** to send. Press **Shift+Enter** for a new line.
3. To point everyone to a moment in a video or audio item, select **Include timecode** before you send. The message gets a link to the frame showing when you press **Enter**, such as `shot_010 @ 00:00:12:05`.

Selecting a timecode link in a message jumps to that item and frame. Messages sent while an image or document is open always link to that item.

To react, point to a message and select the smiley button.

Use chat for quick talk during the session. Feedback that should stay with an item belongs in a comment.

## Talk in the voice call

1. Open **Chat** and select **Join call** at the top of the panel.
2. Allow your browser to use the microphone when it asks.
3. Use the microphone button to switch between **Mute microphone** and **Unmute microphone**. To change microphone, select its name next to that button.
4. Select **Leave** to hang up.

Once you've joined, the panel lists everyone in the call: a green ring shows who's speaking, and a crossed-out microphone shows who's muted. If you close **Chat** during a call, a small control at the bottom right keeps the mute button and **Leave** in reach. Opening another review leaves the call.

The call is audio only. **Shift+M** mutes the review's playback sound for you, not your microphone.

## Guests in chat and calls

* Guests can chat and join the call from a share link. On an **Open access** link they appear as "Anonymous".
* On a link that asks guests to confirm their email, revis.io asks for it before a guest's first message or reaction.
* On a **Revis account to interact** link, sign in before sending messages, reacting, or joining a call. If **Chat** says "Sign in to revis.io to chat.", open **Notes** and select **Sign in to revis.io to comment.** to sign in and return to the review.
* On a **Presentation** link, **Join call** is grayed out with "Calls are disabled for this link".

## Delete messages

* **Your own message:** point to it and select the X next to it. You can delete your own messages when you're signed in or have confirmed your email; anonymous guests on an **Open access** link can't delete.
* **Anyone's message:** organization Owners and Admins, and Project Admins of the review's project, can delete any message the same way. They can also select **Clear** above the messages to empty the chat for everyone.

A deleted message disappears for everyone. Hosting the session doesn't give you these rights.

## If your access changes during a session

* If someone changes your role, or the permissions of the link you opened, revis.io reconnects you within a few seconds with your new rights. If you were in the call, you rejoin it.
* If the link is turned off or deleted, guests are taken to the sign-in page, which says "This review is no longer shared with you. Ask the person who shared it for a new link, or sign in if you have an account."

## Limits

* A message can be up to 2,000 characters. From 1,800 characters a count such as "1,867 / 2,000" shows under the box. Over the limit it says "Too long to send" and the message can't be sent until you shorten it.
* If nothing happens when you select **Join call**, your browser is blocking the microphone. Allow it in the browser's site settings, then try again.
* On some company networks the call can't connect. Ask your IT team to allow browser voice calls (WebRTC).
