# Rename, remove and manage items in a review

Rename an item by double-clicking its name, set its thumbnail from the player, and take items out of a review with **Remove**. Select two or more items on the **Reviews** page to change their status, remove them, copy a link, or compare them together.

::: info Before you start

* **Who:** Owners, Admins, Members, Project Admins, and Contributors can rename items and set thumbnails. Only Owners, Admins, and Project Admins can remove items. Reviewers can also change statuses; see [Approve an item or set its status](/reviews/approve-an-item).
* **Where:** the web app, on the **Reviews** page and in the player.
* **You need:** a review with items.
  :::

::: warning
Reviewers and Viewers still see **Rename** and **Set as Thumbnail**, but their changes aren't saved. A rename goes back to the old name without a message.
:::

## Rename an item

1. On the **Reviews** page, expand the review and switch to the grid view (the grid button at the top right of the page). The list view has no rename.
2. Double-click the item's name under its thumbnail. You can also right-click the item and choose **Rename**.
3. Type the new name.
4. Press **Enter**, or press **Esc** to cancel.

In the player, double-click the item's name in the playlist, or right-click it and choose **Rename**. **Item actions** at the top doesn't offer it.

The text you edit leaves out the file extension, which stays as it is. Names can be up to 255 characters. The new name applies to the item everywhere, including other reviews and Files & Folders.

## Work on several items at once

1. Expand the review and select an item.
2. Hold **Shift** and select another item to select everything between them. Hold **⌘** (**Ctrl** on Windows and Linux) to add or remove single items.
3. Find the bar at the top of the page. It reads **N items selected** once you select two or more.
4. Choose an entry:
   * **set status** lists the statuses and **No Status**. Every selected item gets the one you choose.
   * **Remove selected items** (the trash icon) takes the items out of the review.
   * **Share selection** offers **Copy link**, a link for people in your organization, and **Open in player**, which opens only these items in a new tab.
   * **Compare items** compares the selected items side by side.

Select **Clear selection** (the X) to close the bar.

## Set a thumbnail

1. Open the item in the player and go to the frame you want.
2. Select **Item actions** (the menu next to the item's name at the top).
3. Choose **Set as Thumbnail**. revis.io shows "Thumbnail updated".

The thumbnail is the frame you're on, drawings included. The entry appears for items with more than one frame, such as videos. It needs uploads to be turned on for your organization.

## Remove items from a review

::: warning
**Remove** takes effect at once. revis.io doesn't ask you to confirm, and there's no **Undo**. The item stays in Files & Folders and in any other review that holds it.
:::

1. Select the item, or several items.
2. Right-click one of them.
3. Choose **Remove**, or **Remove items** when several are selected. The trash icon in the bar does the same.

## Where each action lives

| Action | **Reviews** page menu | Player playlist menu | Player **Item actions** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Rename** | Yes, in the grid view | Yes | No |
| **Set as Thumbnail** | No | Yes | Yes |
| **Remove** | Yes | Yes | Yes |

revis.io shows **Remove** only to Owners, Admins, and Project Admins. To put items into sections, see [Group and reorder items with sections](/reviews/group-items-into-sections).
