# Protect, track or stop a share link

In a review's **Share** dialog you can make its share link expire, protect it with a password, see who opened it, or turn it off. Turning a link off is final: sharing the review again creates a new link.

::: info Before you start

* **Who:** project members who can edit the review (Owner, Admin, Member, Project Admin, or Contributor).
* **Where:** the web app, or the desktop app for a review stored in revis.io's cloud.
* **You need:** a review that already has a share link. To create one, see [Share a review with external guests](/sharing/share-a-review).
  :::

## Set an expiry date or a password

1. Open the review in the player and select **Share** (the share icon at the top right; in the desktop app, in the player's toolbar).
2. Under **Options**, select **Link Expires**. Choose **1 day**, **3 days**, or **1 week**, or select the date field below them and pick a date.
3. To require a password, select **Password** and type a password of at least 5 characters. Select **Copy password** (the copy icon at the end of the field) and keep the password somewhere safe: revis.io can't show it again.
4. Select **Update Link**. revis.io copies the link to your clipboard, replacing the password, and shows "Share link updated".

About expiry and passwords:

* **1 day**, **3 days**, and **1 week** count from now. A date from the calendar ends the link at the start of that day, in your time zone. Without a date, the link doesn't expire.
* Guests who open an expired link see "Share has expired". Guests who are already watching aren't sent away when it expires; to stop a link at once, turn it off.
* The share email never contains the password, so send it separately. A new password applies to everyone, including guests who entered the old one.
* To keep the current password, leave the field empty. To remove it, clear **Password**.

## Start guests unsynced

Select **Start unsynced** under **Options**, then **Update Link**. Guests then open the review with playback sync off, and watch at their own pace until they select **Sync playback** (the link icon at the top right).

## See who opened the link

1. Open **Share**.
2. Select **Guests** to list the guests who confirmed their email on this link, with when each was last seen. Guests on an **Open access** link don't appear.
3. Select **View access log** for visits and sign-in steps, such as **Viewed**, **Entered password**, or **Verified email**. Repeat views within 15 minutes count once.

You can't remove a guest. To shut everyone out, turn the link off.

## Turn the link off

::: danger
You can't turn the same link back on, and its guest list and access log are no longer available. If you share the review again, revis.io creates a new link, and the old one stays off.
:::

1. Open **Share**.
2. Under **Access**, choose **Project Users Only**.
3. Select **Update Link**. In the web app, revis.io shows "Share link deactivated".

Guests who have the review open are taken to the sign-in page, which says "This review is no longer shared with you. Ask the person who shared it for a new link, or sign in if you have an account." Anyone who opens the link later sees "Share link not found".

To turn off several links at once, go to the Reviews page and select **Select reviews** (the checkbox icon above the list). Select the reviews, then choose **More options** (the three dots in the bar that appears) > **Unshare**. It doesn't ask you to confirm.

## When an admin changes the sharing rules

* If an admin turns off **External Link Sharing**, links stop working and no new ones can be made. They work again when sharing is turned back on.
* If an admin turns on **Require Password**, links without a password stop working, and you can't add a password to them in the dialog. Turn the link off and share the review again: the new link comes with a password.
