Reset or change your password
Forgot your password? Select Forgot password? on the Revis sign-in page and revis.io emails you a link to set a new one. If you're signed in and know your current password, change it in Preferences > Security instead.
Before you start
- Who: anyone with a Revis account.
- Where: the web app, in a browser. The desktop app has no password screens: reset or change your password on the web, and the new password works in both apps. The sign-in page that a review link opens has no Forgot password?, so start from the main Revis sign-in page.
- You need: to reset a password, access to your Revis account's email inbox; to change it, your current password.
Reset a forgotten password
- On the sign-in page, select Forgot password? next to the Password label.
- On Reset your password, enter the email address you sign in with, then select Send reset link. The page shows Check your email, whether or not that address has an account.
- Open the email titled "Reset your password" and select Reset password in it.
- On Set a new password, enter the same password in New password and Confirm new password.
- Select Set new password, then sign in with your new password.
A reset signs you out of revis.io everywhere, including other browsers and the desktop app.
Each link works once and expires after three days. If the page says "The password reset token was invalid.", the link was already used or has expired: select Request a new link and start again.
No email after a few minutes? Check your spam folder, and check that you entered the address you sign in with.
Change your password
- Select your profile picture or initials in the sidebar, then select Preferences.
- Select Security.
- Under Password, enter your Current password.
- Enter the new password in New password and Confirm new password.
- Select Change password.
revis.io signs you out on your other devices, including the desktop app. The browser you're using stays signed in.
If an error appears above Change password, for example because the current password is wrong or the new one breaks the rules below, fix it and select Change password again.
Set a password if your account doesn't have one
Accounts created with Google or single sign-on have no password. For them, Security shows Email me a link instead of the password fields.
- In Preferences > Security, select Email me a link.
- Open the "Reset your password" email and select Reset password.
- Enter the password twice and select Set new password.
- Sign in again. From now on you can also sign in with your email address and this password, unless your organization requires single sign-on.
Password rules
Your new password must:
- Be at least 8 characters long.
- Not be a commonly used password.
- Not be numbers only.
- Not be too similar to your email address or name.
Limits
- You can request up to three reset emails an hour for the same address. A fourth request in that hour shows "Too many attempts. Try again later."
- After 10 reset emails in a day for the same address, revis.io stops sending more for up to a day, without a message. If you've already asked for a link, wait for it and use the newest email instead of asking again.
- Email me a link sends the same reset email, so it counts toward these limits.
- revis.io doesn't email you to confirm that your password changed.
