Create a project
A project holds your team's reviews and files. Create one with New Project on the Projects page, name it, and choose its visibility: who in your organization can see it. Visibility starts at Discoverable, and you can change it later.
Before you start
- Who: organization Owners, Admins, and Members. Reviewers and Viewers can't create projects: they still see New Project, but creating fails with "You don't have permission to create projects in this organisation".
- Where: the web app. The desktop app has no New Project.
- You need: a name for the project.

Transcript
New projects start on your organization's Projects page. Select your organization's icon at the top of the sidebar, then your organization's name. Over on the right of the toolbar, select New Project.
Give the project a name. A description is optional, so we'll leave it empty. Next is Visibility, which decides who in your organization can see the project.
It starts at Discoverable. Let's open it. Private keeps the project to its members, the teams added to it, and your organization's admins.
Nobody else sees it. Discoverable lets in the same people, but everyone else in the organization can find it under Browse Projects and ask to join. Public opens it to everyone in your organization, with the access their organization role gives them.
It never includes people outside your organization. We'll keep Discoverable. When you're ready, select Create Project.
The project opens on its Reviews page. As a Member who chose Discoverable, you're its Project Admin, so you can add people and change its settings.
- Open your organization's Projects page: select your organization's icon at the top of the sidebar, then your organization's name.
- Select New Project.
- Enter a Name. A Description is optional.
- Under Visibility, choose who can see the project. See the table below.
- Select Create Project. The project opens on its Reviews page.
revis.io creates the project in your current organization; switch organization first if you need another one. From any page, you can also select New project (the + next to your organization's name in the organization menu).
Choose a visibility
| Visibility | Who can open it | Everyone else in your organization |
|---|---|---|
| Private | Project members, teams added to the project, and organization Owners and Admins | Doesn't see it |
| Discoverable (default) | The same people as Private | Sees it under Browse Projects and can request access |
| Public | Everyone in your organization, with the access their organization role gives them | Can open it too |
Public never includes people outside your organization. To give them access, invite them or share a review with them.
Who manages the project
If you're a Member and choose Private or Discoverable, you become the project's Project Admin, so you can add people and change its settings. If you choose Public, you work in it with your organization role, and your organization's Owners and Admins manage it. Owners and Admins aren't added as members; they can already open every project.
Change the visibility later
Project Admins and organization Owners and Admins can change a project's visibility. Others who can open project settings see the field turned off, with "Changing the visibility requires the Manage settings permission."
WARNING
Restricting visibility takes the project away from organization members who aren't in it. Before you narrow it, add anyone who still needs the project to its members.
- Select Project settings: the gear next to the project's name at the top of the page, or the gear on the project's card on the Projects page. The settings open on General.
- Under Visibility, choose the new option.
- If the new option lets fewer people in, revis.io asks Restrict project visibility? and says who loses access. Select Restrict access to continue, or Cancel to keep the current visibility.
- Select Save Changes. Nothing changes until you save; then revis.io shows "Settings saved".
