Loop, mark and trim on the timeline

Updated Oct 11, 2026

Loop, mark and trim on the timeline

The timeline under the media shows where you are in a video, audio item, or whiteboard. Drag along it to scrub, set in and out points to loop part of it, add markers that everyone sees, and trim the item for everyone in the review.

Before you start

  • Who: anyone who can open the review can scrub, zoom, and loop. Markers need permission to comment. Trimming needs permission to edit the review: Owners, Admins, Members, Project Admins, and Contributors.
  • Where: the web app's player.
  • You need: a video, audio item, or whiteboard open in the player.

Scrub and zoom

  1. Drag along the timeline to move through the item.
  2. To look closer, right-click and drag across part of the timeline (or hold ⌘ (Ctrl on Windows and Linux) and drag). A menu opens when you let go.
  3. Choose Zoom to Selection. The timeline now shows only that part.
  4. To go back, right-click the timeline and choose Zoom to Full Clip, or select Zoom to full clip under the timeline.

Loop a range with in and out points

  1. Go to the first frame you want and select Set in point, or press , (or [).
  2. Go to the last frame and select Set out point, or press . (or ]).
  3. Play. With Loop playback on, playback repeats between the two points.

Press Shift+I or Shift+O to jump to the in or out point, and / to clear both. To zoom the timeline to the range, select Zoom to range.

The range isn't saved with the review. Other people watching the review at the same time with playback synced see it too.

Add and find markers

  1. Go to the frame you want to mark.
  2. Select Set marker, or press M.

Markers show as ticks on the timeline, and everyone who opens the review sees them. To remove a marker, go to its frame and press M again. You can remove your own markers; Admins and Project Admins can remove anyone's. Otherwise revis.io says "You can't remove this marker". If your role can't comment, M says "You can't add markers to this review".

Press Shift+↑ and Shift+↓ to jump between markers, and ↑ and ↓ to jump between comments and drawings.

Trim an item

  1. Select Trim (the scissors under the timeline).
  2. Drag the handles at each end of the timeline to the new start and end. revis.io saves the trim when you let go.
  3. Select Trim again to hide the handles.

The trim applies for everyone who plays the item in this review. It doesn't change the uploaded file or the item in other reviews. To undo it, drag the handles back to the ends of the timeline.

Trim isn't available in Quick Review links or while you play items as a sequence.
