Add retime, skip-frame, and color-correction notes

Updated Oct 11, 2026

Add retime, skip-frame, and color-correction notes

Attach a note to a range of frames to play it faster or slower, skip it, or change its color. The note takes effect for everyone who plays the item, and it stays in the Notes list like any comment. revis.io's UI also calls comments "notes".

Before you start

  • Who: anyone who can comment: Owners, Admins, Members, Project Admins, Contributors, and Reviewers.
  • Where: the web app. On the desktop app, speed and skip notes work only with the RV and OpenRV players.
  • You need: a video item open in the player.

Add a speed note from the timeline

  1. Turn on Select range in the transport bar.
  2. Drag across the frames you want to change on the timeline.
  3. Choose Retime Range from the menu.
  4. Type a comment and select Comment.

Sometimes a shot needs its own speed. Turn on Select range in the transport bar. Drag across the frames you want to change on the timeline.

Choose Retime Range from the menu. The note starts at 0.5x. Type a comment and select Comment.

Now a skip note. Move the playhead to the first frame you want to cut. Select the comment box, then drag + end across the frames to cut.

Select More annotation types, then choose Skip Frames. Type why, then select Comment.

The note starts at 0.5x. Before you select Comment, choose another speed from 0.25x to 2x in the list in the comment box. Choose Skip Frame(s) in step 3 to skip the range instead. You can also right-click and drag on the timeline without turning on Select range.

Add a skip note from the comment box

  1. Move the playhead to the first frame you want to cut.
  2. Select the comment box, then drag + end across the frames to cut.
  3. Select More annotation types, then choose Skip Frames.
  4. Type why, then select Comment.

More annotation types is the three-dots button in the comment box. Add Retime in the same menu works like Retime Range. Drag + end first: without it, the note covers one frame.

Add a color note

  1. Move the playhead to the first frame you want to grade.
  2. Select the comment box, then drag + end across the frames to grade.
  3. Select More annotation types, then choose Add Color Correct.
  4. Adjust the sliders. The player previews the grade as you go.
  5. Type a comment and select Comment.

The sliders are brightness, contrast, exposure, gamma, and saturation. Select advanced for channel gains, ASC CDL, and hue. source colorspace sets the color space the file was encoded in. Or drag a range on the timeline and choose Color Correct. One note holds one kind, so don't combine a color change with a speed or skip.

How these notes work

  • Skip notes jump over their frames, speed notes change the playback rate, and color notes replace the item's grade inside their range. Where color notes overlap, the one that starts first wins.
  • Each note is a bar on the timeline. Hold Alt and point to it to read its label: 0.5x, Skip, or Color, with the author and time. In the Notes list the card reads "0.5x speed", "Skipped", or shows the grade.
  • Authors can edit and delete their own notes. Owners, Admins, Members, Project Admins, and Contributors can edit anyone's. Owners, Admins, and Project Admins can delete anyone's.
  • To change a speed later, point to the note's card, select Edit note, choose a speed, and select Save.
